Stefan Praschl studied at the Vienna Academy under Ferdinand Andri and then took a master class learning about animal painting with Carl Fahringer. Fascinated by the animal world, he often studied the Schönbrunn Zoo. From 1934 on he had his first successful exhibitions.
During the war, he was an art teacher at the Armed Forces technical school in Prague.
In 1947 Stefan Praschl, Rudolf Richly, and Franz Ruby found the new Hagenbund. From 1953 on he was a member of the Vienna Secession. His paintings are popular because of their vitality. Stefan Praschl died in 1994 in Vienna.
