HAZOD JOHANN

Oberkappel/OÖ 1897 - 1981 Linz

Johann Hazod was born on 30 March 1897 in Oberkappel. He acquired his knowledge of painting through self-study and he visited the Evening Academy under Rudolf Feischl at the painting school Matthias May. He focused on the paintings of Paul Cézanne and the French Impressionists and became acquainted with Rudolf Steinbuchler, who brought him to fresco painting. From 1934 on he lived in the valley in St. Magdalena / Urfahr. On his travels he visited the Tintoretto exhibition at Ca 'Pesaro and got to know Giotto's frescoes.

Hazod was a member of the artists' association Maerz. His works are in the National Gallery in Vienna, in the Upper Austrian Provincial Museum, and the Museum of the City of Linz. Johann Hazod died on the 30th of July 1981 in Linz.
