Josef Dobrowsky was born on September 22, 1889 in Carlsbad. He was educated at the Vienna Arts and Crafts School and studied from 1906 - 1910 at the Vienna Academy at Griepenkerl and Bacher. After the end of World War I he was a member of the 1919 Secession. Dobrowsky was honored with prizes and awards such as, the Grand Austrian State Prize and the Golden State Medal. He created certain expressive images that deal with themes from Greek mythology. In his still lives , where he used little broken colors to dominate the picture and with his airy strokes he reinforced the light and dark voltage of the background, captivating the viewer. Works of his hands are represented in numerous museums and private collections and are considered cornerstones in the development of modern painting in Austria. Josef Dobrowsky died on 9.Jänner 1964 in Vienna.
